Hazel S. Benfer

Hazel S. Benfer, 79, a resident of 4665 Musser Lane , Watsontown, PA. passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2009 in the Williamsport Hospital. Born in Washington Twp., Lycoming County, PA, on Wednesday, January 29, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Laura (Criswell) Derr.

Hazel was the wife of Aaron W. “Pete” Benfer with whom she celebrated a 58th wedding anniversary on May 13, 2008.

She was formerly employed by Bobbie Brooks, Montgomery Sportswear and J.C. Decker all at Montgomery.

Hazel was a member of the Bower-Decker American Legion Post 251 ladies auxiliary and the Turbotville V.F.W. Post 8206 ladies auxiliary.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne F. and Virginia Benfer, Muncy, PA; Aaron W. and Azel Benfer, Jr., Muncy, PA; Harold E. and Taffy Benfer, Watsontown, PA; four daughters and one son-in-law, Sandra L. and Robert Hackenberg, Winfield, PA; Karen S. Tupper, Muncy, PA; Patty A. Miller, Montgomery, PA; Brenda Lee Price, York, PA; one sister, Dora Simons, Hughesville, PA; two brothers, Fred O. Derr, Turbotville, PA; Donald L. Derr, Watsontown, PA. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Hazel was preceded in death by several sisters and brothers.

Funeral services will be conducted from the First United Methodist Church, 41 West Houston Avenue, Montgomery, PA at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, February 18, 2009 with Pastor Roosevelt Brown officiating. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Clinton Twp., Lycoming County, PA. Friends may call on Wednesday from 11:00 – 12:00 Noon at the church. The family requests no flowers.
