Mary Fox Odell

Mary Fox Odell, 83, of Hughesville, died Sunday, February 22, 2009, at the Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit.

Born October 16, 1925, in Hughesville, she was a daughter of the late Robert G. and Anna Penman Fox. Her husband of 45 years, Robert R. Odell Jr., preceded her in death on March 4, 1993.

Mary graduated from the Hughesville High School Class of 1943. She attended Penn State University and was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority.

A life member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mary was active in bible study, the Trinity Women and the Altar Guild. She enjoyed giving back to her community through her volunteer efforts at the Muncy Valley Hospital and by delivering Meals on Wheels. Mary was a former member of the Eastern Star and had previously been employed at Montgomery’s Pharmacy.

Surviving are two daughters, Christie (James) Foresman and Elizabeth (Jack) Spotts, both of Hughesville; and four grandchildren, Elizabeth (Richard) Smith, Seth Foresman, Joseph Foresman and Robert J. Smith.

Mary was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Kenneth Fox and a step-brother, C. Paul McConnell.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 122 S. Main St., Hughesville, with the Rev. Eric L. Deibler officiating. A private burial will be held in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville.

The family will provide the flowers and suggest memorial contributions to either Meals on Wheels, or the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.
