Michael Aldish
Michael Aldish, 88, of Charlottesville, died peacefully on March 16, 2009 at the University of Virginia Hospital.
Born July 7, 1920, in McDowell County, WV, and was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Mary Aldish.
He was married for 62 years to the former Susan Diggan.
He served his country as a member of the Army Air Corps during World War II.
He resided in Muncy, until retiring to Charlottesville, VA in 1982. During his career in Muncy, he was a private business owner, a Vice President and board member of Commonwealth Bank and Trust Company, and a director of the Citizen’s Bank. For many years, he was a member of the Muncy School Board, serving eight years as President. He was active in many charitable organizations and was a member of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church.
Upon retiring to Charlottesville, Mr. Aldish thoroughly enjoyed working as a starter and a ranger at the Farmington Country Club golf course.
He was an ardent sports fan, an avid reader, and he loved a good game of cards. He was energetic and maintained an active lifestyle even throughout his later years.
He had an outgoing personality, a caring spirit and loved challenges. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and he always cherished the times when he was surrounded by his entire family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Mike Aldish of Raleigh, NC, Pam Bracey and her husband, Lucius, of Charlottesville,VA, Beth Hough and her husband, Stephen, of Lancaster, PA, Susan Grigg and her husband, Jon, of Wellsboro, PA; five grandchildren, Keturah and Daniel Bracey, both of New York, NY; Sarah Grigg, of Ennis, MT, Hunter Grigg of Boston; and Taylor Grigg of State College, PA; and one sister, Helen Blankenship of Ardmore, OK.
Services will be private.
