Mildred A. “Mid” Whitmoyer
Mildred A. “Mid” Whitmoyer, 101, of Muncy Valley, completed her long journey in life on Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at Valley View Nursing Center.
Born Feb. 26, 1908, at Longbrook (near Nordmont), she was a daughter of the late James and Nora Little Laird.
Her husband of 42 years, Albert M. “Hub” Whitmoyer, preceded her in death on Jan. 14, 1979.
She enjoyed hunting and was born to fish. Her last fishing trip was with the Valley View residents, the fall preceding her 100th birthday, to Rose Valley Lake. She loved gardening and baking pies, cookies and breads.
Mrs. Whitmoyer was always ready to lend a helping hand to everyone. She had a kindness and compassion for others and possessed a unique brand of wit. Her sense of humor and loving personality will always hold a special place in her family’s hearts and memories and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Surviving are two daughters, Jane (Lee) Lorow and Peggy (Bill) Leberfinger, both of Muncy Valley; 10 grandchildren, Bonnie (Wally) Shaner of Muncy Valley, Monte (Michal) Trexler of Hughesville, Sherry (Allie) McCabe of Trout Run, Scott (Deb) Lorow of Muncy Valley, Tammy (Bob) Kulaga of Muncy Valley, Dalton Lorow of Muncy Valley, Jeff (Monica) Leberfinger of Hummelstown, Kevan (Mindy) Leberfinger of Northumberland, Dan (Annette) Leberfinger of Bloomsburg and Don (Terri) Leberfinger of Danville; 22 great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a favorite niece and fishing Buddy, Arlene Rosenberry.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Benjamin Trexler; two daughter-in-laws, Phyllis Buck and Jean Ott; and three sisters.
Funeral services were held March 21 at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, Hughesville, with the Rev. Charles A. Harris Sr. officiating. Burial was in Cherry Grove Cemetery, Nordmont.
