Raymond G. Umstead

Raymond G. Umstead, 90, of Unityville, died Saturday, March 21, 2009, at his home.

Born Aug. 24, 1918, at Strawberry Ridge, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Umstead.

Mr. Umstead was a World War II veteran serving in the Army Air Corp. and was a life member of the Millville American Legion. He attended the Lungerville Christian Church, and enjoyed fishing and his dogs.

Surviving are four sons, Raymond G. (Esther) Umstead of Millerton, Richard L. (Donna) Umstead of Unityville, Rodger L. (Joyce) Umstead of Muncy and Robert E. (Patricia) Brewster of Orangeville; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 30 years, Zoe A. Mordan; his second wife of 33 years, Joy F. Wiser; a son, Billy Ray Brewester; and two brothers, Frances and Walter Umstead.

Funeral services were held March 24 at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, Hughesville, with Pastor James Harvey officiating. Burial was in Lungerville Cemetery with graveside military honors accorded.
