Amos V. Starr
Amos V. Starr, 71, a resident of 1009 Petersburg Road, Allenwood, passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2009 in the Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit.
Born in Washington Township, Lycoming County, Pa., on Sunday, Feb. 6, 1938, he was the son of Lewis and Elsie (Haag) Starr.
Amos was the husband of E. Frances (Reisinger) Starr with whom he celebrated a 42nd wedding anniversary on May 20, 2008.
He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and Vietnam War.
Amos was employed by the former J.C. Decker Co. at Montgomery, retiring in 2000. He had previously been employed by Philco Ford, later the Zenith Corp. at Watsontown.
He was of the United Methodist faith. Amos was a member of the L.O.O.M. Lodge No. 171 at Milton, the American Legion and the National Law Enforcement Officers. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Amos V. Starr II, Allenwood; one brother, Larry Starr, Allenwood; two sisters, Zora Unangst, Milton; Geneva Zinck, Woodward; one granddaughter, Kayla Christina Starr. Amos was preceded in death by four brothers, Merle Starr, Gerald Starr, Harold Starr and Donald Starr and one sister, Mabel Shutt.
Graveside funeral services were conducted in the Elimsport Cemetery on April 21, with Michael Hill, pastor of the Elimsport United Methodist Church, and D. Todd Baker, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Elimsport, officiating. Military services were conducted by the Korean War Veterans of Lycoming County.
