Zelda L. Barto

Zelda L. Barto, 86, of Hughesville, died Saturday, July 4, 2009, at the Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit.

Born Aug. 26, 1922, in Penn Township, Lycoming County, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Emma Mae Clark Shaner. Her husband of 43 years, Kimber L. Barto, preceded her in death on Aug. 8, 1983.

Zelda was a member of the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid. She loved quilting and embroidering.

Surviving are a son, Glenn E. (Susie) Barto of Hughesville; two daughters, Emilie L. (Jon) Kuntz and Dorris M. Lauchle, both of Hughesville; two brothers, Gerald and Grant Shaner, both of Hughesville; three sisters, Sylvia Fry, Donna Miller and Jackie Woodsides, all of Hughesville; seven grandchildren; one step-grandson; and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Zelda was preceded in death by a son, Charles L. Barto; one sister; and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with the Rev. Eric L. Deibler officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.
