Ruth R. Long
Ruth R. Long, 90, of Hughesville, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009, at Sycamore Manor.
She was born Dec. 16, 1918, in Danville, a daughter of the late Arthur and Ida Mae Riley. Her husband of 51 years, R. Lloyd Long Sr., preceded her in death on March 23, 1996. Ruth and her husband Lloyd owned and operated Long’s Furniture Store, Muncy for 17 years. She was also employed in the accounting department at Muncy Valley Hospital.
Ruth was an active member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, serving on various committees and a member of the Hughesville Friends of the Library. She was an avid bridge player who also enjoyed gardening, walking and volunteering in her community for meals on wheels and at the Muncy Valley Hospital.
Surviving are a son, Russell L. Long of Hughesville; a daughter, Susan L. (Lawrence) Burns of Cogan Station; a brother, Arthur E. Riley of Highland Park, IL; a sister, Ida Mae Feaster of Danville; three grandchildren, McKenna Long, Lawrence Burns and Ellen Burns; and two great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services were held Monday at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 120 S. Main St., Hughesville. Burial followed in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
