Doris M. Phillips

Doris M. Phillips, 78, of Muncy, died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009, at her home.

Born June 22, 1931, in Moreland Township, Lycoming County, she was a daughter of the late Daniel L. and Clara P. Hill Ellis. Her husband of 49 years, Mervin L. Phillips, preceded her in death on March 3, 1999.

Doris was a member of the Moreland Baptist Church and previously served on the hospitality committee. She enjoyed volunteering for her church and the Son-Light House, Muncy.

An avid bingo player, Doris also enjoyed playing cards, canning, reading and traveling. However, her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren.

Surviving are three sons, Paul L. (Betty) Phillips of Hughesville, Keith M. and Danny “Baker” Phillips both of Muncy; a daughter, Joyce I. (John) Puterbaugh of Unityville; a sister, Jane L. (Dio) Vandine of Hughesville; six grandchildren, Lori A. Fausnaught, Sandy R. Holly, Megan M. Phillips, Amanda J. Swank, Angela M. Phillips and Kelsea C. Phillips; and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Doris was also preceded in death by a son, Kevin Phillips; a brother, Lehman Ellis; a sister, Lula Ellis; and a granddaughter, Amber Jo Phillips.

Funeral services were held Monday at the Moreland Baptist Church, 118 Moreland Baptist Road, Muncy, with the Rev. Dr. Paul T. Fitzgerald officiating. Burial followed in Twin Hills Memorial Park.
