John Samuel Noll

John Samuel Noll, 81, of 55 Loop Road, Watsontown, died Sunday Oct. 18, 2009 at the Williamsport Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

He and his wife Frances L. Hunsinger Noll observed their 62nd anniversary on July 19, 2009. He was the son of Charles M. and Elizabeth M. Noll, deceased.

John was a World War II veteran and served as the Senior Chief Petty Officer on the Coast Guard Cutter Westwind on voyage to the South Pole. He was stationed at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He retired from 22 years of active duty, June 30, 1967 from the U.S. Coast Guard. He then retired from the Commonwealth of Pa., March 30, 1990 as Claims Investigation Agent for Fraud, Abuse, Investigation and Recovery, Harrisburg, Pa.

Mr. Noll was merited a Certificate of Award from the American Legion and was a member in DuBoistown and Montgomery. He was a member of PARSE, Pennsylvania Retired State Employees Association, the Wheel Inn, Inc. of Roaring Branch, and FRA Association.

In addition to his wife he is survived by a daughter, Frances Ruth McMahon; sons, John Charles, Robert Joseph, and Charles Jacob; six grandchildren, Tuesday Nicole Joy, Jonathan Levi Noll, Zachary McMahon serving in the military in Korea, Ryan and Jacob McMahon and Alyasa Marie Noll; and a great-grandson, Logan A. Joy.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 21, at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St. Williamsport, with John’s nephew, retired Rev. George Schlensinger, officiating. Burial was held in Wildwood Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial contributions may be sent in John’s name to South Williamsport United Methodist Church, 409 Main Street, South Williamsport, PA 17702.
