June M. Stamets, 83, of Montgomery, Pa., died Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009 at her daughter’s home in Chester, N.H. Born in Williamsport, on Feb. 6, 1926, June was the only child of the late Willard and Grace (Doctor) McMillen. She was the widow of Dunning Stamets, who preceded her in death on Sept. 5, 2004. She was a 1943 graduate of Montgomery-Clinton High School.
June was formerly employed by the Grit newspaper, Williamsport; the former Montgomery Mills, Montgomery, and retired as a keypunch operator from Koppers, Muncy. She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church, Montgomery. In later years she enjoyed spending the holidays with her daughter in New England.
She is survived by her daughter, Julie Huss, and her husband, Michael, of Chester; four grandchildren, Jon Huss, Manchester, N.H., Katherine Huss, Chester, Jason Stamets and Nicole Stamets, Kansas City, Mo., several cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, June was also preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey, on July 21, 2003.
A memorial service and burial will be held in Montgomery at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to the First United Methodist Church, 41 West Houston Ave., Montgomery, PA, 17752.
