Glenn D. “Rabbit” Harer, 73, of 264 State Rt. 54 Highway, Montgomery, died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010 at his home.

Born Dec. 10, 1936 in Montgomery, he was a son of the late Lloyd and Isola (Knapp) Harer. He and his wife of 51 years, the former Betty Hummel, were married April 19, 1958.

After graduating from high school, Rabbit worked with his father at the former Harer Gulf Station, Montgomery. For 35 years he drove trucks for several area firms before becoming an independent owner/operator. He retired in 2000 from Watsontown Trucking Company.

Rabbit was a former member of the Eagle Grange No. 1, Montgomery. He enjoyed tractors and “farming in his patch.” Rabbit was a NASCAR fan and loved spending time with his family and friends.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Kevin (Jackie) Harer of Muncy and Keith (Brenda Whipple) Harer of Montgomery; a daughter, Kim (Ed) Ferguson of Montgomery; a sister, Shirley Bennett of Hummelstown; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Elwood and Sam Harer.

Friends will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy, where his funeral will be held at 7 p.m. Officiating will be Becky Cuddeback CLM, pastor of Jersey Shore First United Methodist Church. Burial will be held privately at the Fairview Cemetery.

The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, Lycoming Unit, 1948 E. Third St., Williamsport, PA 17701 or to Susquehanna Hospice, 1100 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701.
