Jacqueline S. Read-Zerbe
Jacqueline S. “Nan” Read-Zerbe, 81, of 424 Narber Fry Road Pennsdale, formerly of Nisbet, died Thursday, March 4, 2010 at the home of her daughter Vickie Youmans after an extended illness.
Jacquie’s husband, Luther V. Read, died Jan. 28, 1965.
Jacquie retired in 1981 as a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked for Dr. Philip Jacobson. She also owned and operated Jacquie’s Ceramics of Nisbet was a professional cake decorator and enjoyed flower gardening.
Jacquie was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, graduated from Bellefonte High School in 1946 and attended the Centre County Community Hospital Nurse Training Program in Bellefonte for two years.
Born Jan. 3, 1929 in Boggs Township, Centre County, she was the daughter of Charles A. Smith and Georgianna McClincy Broome and the step daughter of Samuel Broome.
Surviving are her companion of 44 years, Paul M. “Pop” Zerbe, Sr. of Pennsdale; a son, Ronald E. (Christine Fry) Read of South Williamsport; daughters, Leonida J. Read, Rebecca R. (Richard) Eisenman and Jacqueline Joyce Singer all of Williamsport; Vickie C. (Joseph) Youmans of Pennsdale; Gail-Louise (Steven) Ezzyk of Mesa, AZ; a step-daughter; Kathryn L. (Keith Bair) Wines of Hughesville; a step-son Paul M. Zerbe, Jr. of Cogan Station; half brothers, Clair Broome of State College; Lee Broome of Louisville, KY; Samuel Broome of Connecticut; half sisters, Dorothy Clouser of State College, Virginia Sprankle of Tyrone; Sharon Smith of Williamsport; 10 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Jacquie was predeceased by a maternal grandmother, Mary McClincy who raised her, a sister, Juanita Bonsell, 2 grandchildren and a great granddaughter.
Funeral Services were at 3 p.m. Monday at Knight-Confer’s, 1914 Memorial Ave., with the Rev. Anke Deibler officiating. Visitation was from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday. Burial was in Montoursville Cemetery.
The family suggests contributions be made to the Susquehanna Hospice, 1001 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport.
