Douglas E. Shoup

Douglas E. Shoup, 56, of Hughesville, formerly of Montoursville, entered into eternal rest and into the open arms of his granddaughter Rachel at the Williamsport Hospital on Monday, April 12, 2010, surrounded by his family.

Born June 29, 1953, in Williamsport, he was a son of Robert and Miriam Shaffer Shoup. He and his wife, the former LouAnn Myers Laidacker, would have celebrated 14 years of marriage on July 24, 2010.

Doug was a graduate of the Liberty High School, Class of 1971. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Local 764, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, Piper Owner Society, Cherokee Pilot Association, National Rifle Association of America and a life member of North American Hunting Club.

When you could not find him high-tailing it on the open road with the transportation industry as a driver for New Penn Trucking, he would be flying high as an instrument rated private pilot in his Cherokee.

Surviving, in addition to his parents and wife, are three sons, Shad (Jen) Shoup of Red Lion, Jacob (Felicia) Shoup of Trout Run and Joseph Shoup of Arkansas; a step-daughter, Natalie (Health) Laidacker-Young of Sunbury; two brothers, John (Cindy) Shoup and Jesse (Nannette) Shoup, both of Trout Run; two sisters, Marilyn Kilmer of Trout Run and Donna (Ray) Fibranz of Owendale, Mich.; two grandchildren, Caleb and Ethan Shoup of Red Lion; and seven nieces and nephews.

Doug was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Rachel Shoup and a brother, Michael Shoup.

Funeral services were held last Friday at Christ United Methodist Church, 148 S. Main St., Hughesville, with the Rev. G. Edward Corcelius officiating. Burial followed in White Pine Cemetery.
