Richard E. Miller

Richard E. (Muggles) Miller, 75, a resident of Montgomery, passed away on Monday, August 16, 2010 in the Valley View Nursing Center where he was a resident for the past 6 1/2 years. Born in Montgomery, Lycoming County, PA, on Thursday, January 24, 1935, he was the son of the late Raymond W. and Ruth M. (Bartlett) Miller.

He was the husband of Carol L. (Edwards) Miller with whom he celebrated a 50th wedding anniversary on June 11, 2010.

Muggles was a 1952 graduate of Montgomery High School. He served during the Korean Conflict as a medic with the U.S. Navy. He was employed as a welder by A.C.F. Industries at Milton, PA where he retired after 33 years of service.

Muggles was a member of the First United Methodist Church at Montgomery. He was a lifetime member of Bower-Decker American Legion Post 251 at Montgomery, a member of the Montgomery Boat Club and a past member of Circle J Hunting Club. He was a former manager of Little League Baseball with his father-in-law. Muggles enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, camping and boating.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Kathy A. and Scott Sampsell, Montgomery; Jodie Knittle and Brett Whitmoyer, Millville; one brother, Robert W. Miller, Montgomery; three granddaughters, Melissa Knittle; Alicia Knittle; Kelsey Sampsell; two great-grandsons, Devin Swank; Carter Swank. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Jill Miller, one grandson, Nicholas Sampsell and two brothers, Larry W. Miller and Raymond “Bill” Miller, Jr.

A memorial service will be conducted from the First United Methodist Church, 41 West Houston Avenue, Montgomery at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 21, 2010 with Rev. Richard M. Barner, his pastor, officiating. Friends may call on Saturday from 10:00 11:00 A.M. at the church. Military honors will be accorded by the joint veterans organizations. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Sunrise Terrace at Valley View Nursing Center, 2140 Warrensville Road, Montoursville, PA 17754.
