Thelma L. Burkhart
Thelma L. Burkhart, 88, of Montoursville, concluded her journey in life Sunday, September 19, 2010. She had been ill for two months.
Born in Sullivan County on May 15, 1922, she was a daughter of the late George and Stella (Snyder) Kepner.
Thelma and her husband, Elwood, maintained a farm near Huntersville for over 50 years. He preceded her in death on March 6, 2005. A graduate of Hughesville High School, Thelma was employed at the Sylvania photo flash plant in Montoursville for 25+ years until retiring in the fall of 1982. She held a leadership role in 4-H for many years, teaching baking and cake decorating to many youth. Thelma enjoyed making crafts, cake decorating, bus trips and playing cards with her friends.
She was a member of the Heilman United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and held various positions within the church.
Thelma will be lovingly remembered by her family consisting of three sons, Rodger Burkhart and wife Sharon of Rochester, NY, Wayne Burkhart and wife Connie of Catawissa, and Les Burkhart of Montoursville; six grandchildren, Maricel Haguisan, Jodi Houser, Anne LeGore, Doug Burkhart, Alecia Bower and Ashley Burkhart; three brothers, Clyde Kepner of Muncy, and Oscar Kepner and Marlyn Kepner, both of Hughesville; two sisters, Esther Houseknecht of Muncy Valley and Glenna Gardner of Muncy; 13 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Grace Kepner and Claire Penta and four brothers, Ralph, Lewis, Melvin and Gerald Kepner.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 24, at Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy. Officiating will be her minister, Pastor Connie Waugh. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in Webster Cemetery, Huntersville following the services.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
