Ralph S. Spring “Pop,” 85, of Muncy, died Monday, Dec. 20, 2010, at the Williamsport Regional Medical Center.

Born Aug. 21, 1925, in Franklin Township, Lycoming County, he was a son of the late Harry E. and Amanda E. Sones Spring. His wife of 56 years, the former Kathleen Wayland, preceded him in death on Aug. 3, 2004.

Ralph was born and raised on his family farm and continued to work the farm his entire life. He retired from the East Lycoming School District in 1985, after having worked there for nearly 25 years. He was a member of the Lairdsville Faith Church, where he served as Sunday School Superintendent and Treasurer. Ralph loved animals, shopping and visiting with people.

Surviving are a daughter, Sharon (Tyrone Clayton) Spring Lane of Harrisburg; two granddaughters, Nicole J. Spring of Muncy and Alyvia Lozano-Pritchard of Harrisburg; a great-granddaughter, Amanda (Leon Eric McIlwain) Spring of Lairdsville; two great-great-grandchildren, Dylan Kathleen Spring and Bailey Ryan Spring; his companion, Joan Swisher; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his wife and parents, Ralph was preceded in death by four brothers, Eugene, George, Russell and Carl Spring; and three sisters, Rebecca Fenstamaker, Malita Spring Grove and Leona Marie Spring.

Funeral services were held 10 a.m. Friday Dec. 24 at the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville with the Rev. Max L. Walters Jr. officiating. Burial followed in Lairdsville Cemetery. Friends called from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday Dec. 23 at the funeral home.
