Ruth Ann Van Horn
Ruth Ann Van Horn, 78, of 642 Fogelman Road, Muncy, died Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at her home.
Born Dec. 10, 1932, in Muncy, she was a daughter of the late William J. R. and Dorothy (Sheets) Murray. She and her husband of 56 years, Chalmer C. Van Horn, were married Aug. 14, 1954.
Ruth Ann was a 1950 graduate of Muncy High School and a 1953 graduate of Williamsport Hospital School of Nursing, where she received a degree as a Registered Nurse. Ruth Ann worked in the emergency room at Muncy Valley Hospital from 1956 until the late 1960s when health issues forced her to retire. She had great artistic abilities and found pleasure in rug hooking. Ruth Ann went on to operate her own business, Ruth Ann’s Wool, in which she sold rug hooking supplies and wool all across the country.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Muncy and the Monsey Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star 481. Ruth Ann was a wonderful cook and great gardener.
Surviving in addition to her husband are one daughter and son-in-law, Rosa Jean and Dale Hessler of Hughesville; one sister and brother-in-law, Norma Jean and Franklin Herr Jr. of Muncy; one brother-in-law and his wife, Paul L. and Helen Van Horn of Hughesville; two sisters-in-law, Marion L. O’Conner of Hughesville and Doris Van Horn of Sacramento, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by two brothers-in-law, Roland Van Horn and James O’Conner.
The funeral was held at noon on Saturday, April 2, at the First United Methodist Church, 602 S. Market St., Muncy. Officiating was her pastor, Rev. Michael R. Gardy. Burial followed in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hughesville.
Friends were received at the church from 10:30 a.m. until noon on Saturday, where an Order of the Eastern Star service will be held at 11:45 a.m.
