Gary Lee Barto

Gary Lee Barto, 65, of Hughesville, died Friday, April 22, 2011, at the Williamsport Regional Medical Center.

Born Dec. 16, 1945, in Williamsport, he was a son of Helen and the late Marvin Barto. He and his wife, the former Sandra I. Remsnyder, celebrated 47 years of marriage on April 19, 2011.

Gary was a veteran, who served in the U.S. Navy. He retired from Liberty Mutual in 2006, after having worked there for over 30 years and was currently employed at Murray Motors, Muncy. Gary was an outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also a member of Hope Community Church, Muncy and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He most recently enjoyed making maple syrup with his sons. He also looked forward to his upcoming fishing trip to Canada.

Surviving, in addition to his wife are his mother and step-father, Helen and Attwood Richie, of Hughesville; two sons, John D. (Ronda) Barto, of Bloomsburg and Roby E. (Christa) Barto, a daughter, Tammy L. (Brian) Peace, of Muncy; two brothers, Alan M. Barto and Harold E. Barto, both of Hughesville; three sisters, Wendy J. (Terry) Baxter, of Huntersville, Shelley M. (William) Thomas, of Sunbury and Cindy L. (Clay) Briel, of Ashland; four grandchildren, Connor McLaughlin, Brianna McLaughlin, Roman Barto and Dylan Peace; and a special brother-in-law, Rudy E. (Sharon) Remsnyder, of Hughesville.

In addition to his father, Gary was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy McLaughlin; and four brothers, Ronald Barto, Steven Barto, Tracey Barto and Christopher Houseknecht.

Funeral services were held 7 p.m. Tuesday, at the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with military honors accorded by combined veterans organizations. Friends called from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

The family provided the flowers and suggest memorial contributions be made to Hope Community Church, 528 S. Main St., Muncy, PA 17756.
