Eleanor Mary Stroup Sones

Eleanor Mary Stroup Sones, 94, formerly of Pennsdale, died Monday, April 25, 2011, at Sycamore Manor in Montoursville.
Born June 19, 1916 in Muncy, she was the daughter of the late Ray R. and Tesse (Rogers) Renn. Her first husband, Gordon Stroup, Sr., preceded her in death on July 20, 1986. On January 29, 1994 she married Harold S. Sones, who survives.
Eleanor was a 1935 graduate of Muncy High School. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Muncy, and in 1972 became a charter member of Twin Hills Church of the Nazarene, where she served as a missionary president for 20 years.
Her world revolved around her church and her family. She was devoted to the work of her church; and was a loving wife as well as the best mother in the world, constantly giving all her love and dedication to her family.
Surviving in addition to her husband, Harold, of Muncy, are one son, Rev. Thomas C. (Darlene) Stroup of Brockport, New York; four daughters, Janice Laurenson of Hughesville, R. Anne (Robert) Menges of Muncy, Wanda L. Lundy of Montoursville, and Ellen (Charles) Lawson of Camp Hill; two daughters-in-law, Marjory Dewald Stroup of Picture Rocks and Donna Gortner Stroup of Columbus, Ohio; 22 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and 24 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her first husband and parents, she was predeceased by two sons, Rev. Robert Stroup, who died Dec. 10, 1999, and Gordon R. “Skip” Stroup, who died March 17, 2008; and three brothers, Roger, Roy and Robert Renn.
The funeral was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 30, at Twin Hills Church of the Nazarene, 588 Cemetery Road, Muncy. Officiating was her son, Rev. Thomas C. Stroup, pastor of Brockport Free Methodist Church. Burial followed in Muncy Cemetery.
Friends were received from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday at the church.
The family provided the flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to the building fund of Twin Hills Church of the Nazarene, 588 Cemetery Road, Muncy, PA 17756.
