Vivian Jean Derrick

Vivian Jean Derrick, 84, of Picture Rocks, died Thursday, Aug. 4, 2011, at the Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit.

Born Feb. 13, 1927, in Lords Valley, she was a daughter of the late Owen W. and Fannie E. Arter Hartman. She and her husband, Glen W. Derrick Sr., would have celebrated 66 years of marriage on Dec. 25, 2011.

Vivian was a member of the Picture Rocks United Methodist Church. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, canning and cooking. Vivian also loved to play bocce ball, traveling and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two sons, Gary O. (Patricia) Derrick, of Dewart and Glen W. (Dorothy) Derrick Jr., of Picture Rocks; a daughter, Connie J. (Norman) Baysore, of Hughesville; a brother, Howard T. (Dollie) Hartman, of New Mexico; two sisters, Vida E. Horn, of Bloomsburg and Beverly J. (Arnold) Piatt, of Benton; 11 grandchildren, Matthew T. Derrick, Mark O. Derrick, Annette L. Bender, Stacy E. Hauck, Kara L. Adams, Christopher J. Derrick, Laura J. Miller, Bradley D. Golder, Michael C. Baysore, Brian N. Baysore and Justin R. Baysore; and 20 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Vivian was preceded in death by a brother, Owen “Skip” Hartman.

Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Monday, at the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville with Rev. Max L. Walters Jr. officiating. Burial followed in Wesley Chapel “Talmar” Cemetery. Friends called from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
