Dennis C. “Denny” Newman

Dennis C. “Denny” Newman, 65, of Hughesville, died Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011, at the Gatehouse in Williamsport.

Born Nov. 8, 1946, he was a son of the late Joseph E. and Myrtle A. (Worthington) Newman. He and his wife, the former Ruth A. Stugart, celebrated 43 years of marriage June 15, 2011.

Denny was a graduate of Hughesville High School, class of 1964. He was a Vietnam veteran serving in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a member and former commander of the VFW Post 3428, Muncy, a member of American Legion Post 268, Muncy and the 40 et 8 Highland Lake. Denny enjoyed collecting coins.

Denny worked as a mechanic for over 40 years at the current Fairfield Auto Group and with the various owners prior to his current employer.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Aletha (Joe) Lyons of Picture Rocks; a son, Carl Newman of Hughesville; and two grandchildren, Rachael and Connor Lyons.

In addition to his parents, Denny was preceded in death by a brother, Max E. Newman.

Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with the Rev. G. Edward Corcelius officiating. Burial followed in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery, with graveside military honors accorded by combined veterans organizations. Friends called from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
