R. Eugene Dewalt
R. Eugene Dewalt, 81, of Muncy, died Monday, Nov. 28, 2011, at the Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit.
Born Jan. 26, 1930, in Muncy, he was a son of the late David T. and Lillian R. Thomas Dewalt.
Eugene served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and would later retire from Federal Prison Camp, Allenwood, after having worked there for over 20 years.
He was a member of many organizations, including Muncy Lodge 299 F. & A. M., Warrior Run Royal Arch Chapter No. 246, Watsontown, Williamsport Consistory, Zafar Grotto, Muncy Valley Moose, Bower-Decker Legion Post 251, Montgomery, Christ Lutheran Church and a past member of Clinton Township Fire Company.
Surviving are a son, Stephen M. (Patty) Dewalt of Georgetown, Ky.; a daughter, Sharon E. Dewalt of Hughesville; and two grandchildren, Cheryl M. Dewalt and Chris W. Dewalt.
In addition to his parents, Eugene was preceded in death by his first wife of 31 years, Phyllis Canada Dewalt; his second wife of 22 years, Carol Drapeau Dewalt; and a brother, David T. Dewalt.
Funeral services were held 10 a.m. Monday, at Christ Lutheran Church, 50 E. Houston Ave., Montgomery, with the Rev. Jill V. Seagle officiating. Burial followed in Green Lawn Memorial Park with graveside military honors accorded by combined veterans organizations. Friends called from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, at the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, where a Masonic funeral service was held at 8:45 p.m. by Muncy Lodge.
