Floyd E. Chestnut

Floyd E. Chestnut, 81, of Muncy, died Saturday, March 24, 2012, at the Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit.

Born Feb. 24, 1931, in Sullivan County, he was a son of the late Calvin and Amanda Morris Chestnut. His wife of 59 years, the former Eunice R. Hess, preceded him in death on Nov. 20, 2008.

Floyd served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was employed at the former Sprout Waldron’s for 25 years and retired from Local 520 Plumbers & Steam Fitters in 1993, after having worked there for 24 years. After retiring, Floyd enjoyed working with his son Dennis at C&C Tree Service.

Floyd was a member of the American Legion Post 601, Sonestown, 40 et 8 Highland Lake, Quarter Century Club and Church of the Resurrection, Muncy.

Surviving are a son, Dennis L. (Patti) Chestnut, of Muncy; a brother, James (Sherry) Chestnut, of Williamsport; two sisters, Marian (Carl) Plank, of Montoursville, and Esther (Raymond) Umstead, of Mansfield; three grandchildren, Cora Ann Baysore, Cody Lee Chestnut and Kara Rose Chestnut; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, Floyd was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Chestnut; and two sister-in-laws, Mary and Jane Chestnut.

Funeral services will be held today, 10 a.m. Wednesday, at the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with the Rev. Glenn McCreary officiating. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Montoursville. Friends called from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
