Lester M. Neitz
Lester M. Neitz, 86, of 217 S. Market St., Muncy, died Saturday, May 5, 2012, at Manor Care North, Williamsport.
Born Oct. 1, 1925, in Chili, N.Y., he was a son of the late Cyrus and Rebecca (Gundrum) Neitz. On Dec. 24, 1945, he married the former Laura Riley, who survives.
Lester graduated from Muncy High School and also from a two-year commercial college in Williamsport. He served in the U.S. Army, both during World War II and the Korean War, and was a recipient of two Purple Hearts. Lester was employed as a tool room coordinator at the former Sprout’s, now Andritz, in Muncy. For many years he also served as the Muncy boro tax assessor and as a crossing guard for the Muncy school district. He was a member of the Muncy Lodge #299, F & AM.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 66 years are one daughter, Carol A. Neitz, of Summerdale; one granddaughter, Christine (Strouse) Treadwell and husband Albert, of Mechanicsburg; two great-grandsons, Nicholas and Matthew Treadwell; and two sisters, Dorothy (John) Mueller, of Rochester, N.Y., and Evelyn (Rev. Robert) Seibold, of Shippensburg.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Cathleen Neitz, who died Feb. 19, 1989; and three brothers, Ken, Merlin and Harold Neitz.
Friends will be received today from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 9, at Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy, where the funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Officiating will be Rev. Michael R. Gardy, pastor of First United Methodist Church, Muncy. Full military honors will be accorded immediately following the service. A private burial will be held in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery on Friday.
