Elizabeth L. Gohl
Elizabeth L. “Betty” Gohl, 91, of Philadelphia, died Friday, July 20, 2012, at the home of her daughter in Staunton, Va.
Born July 6, 1921, in Muncy, she was a daughter of the late Clarence R. and Margaret (Gortner) Lockard. On March 17, 1945, she married Robert Murray Gohl. Together they celebrated 39 years of marriage before his death on March 1, 1985.
A 1939 graduate of Muncy High School, Betty continued her education at the University of Pennsylvania graduating with a degree as a registered nurse. She started working at the University of Pennsylvania then went to the Haverford Hospital in Havertown, retiring in 1978.
Betty was a wonderful mother and grandmother.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Peter and Charlotte Gohl of Philadelphia and Robert M. Gohl Jr. and Cyndy Gohl of Jackson, N.J.; one daughter and son-in-law, Margaret “Peggy” and Raymond Hollinger of Staunton, Va.; eight grandchildren, Susan Armstrong, David Hollinger, Christopher Hollinger, Jennifer Leone, Stephanie Holmes, Sara Gohl, Lindsay Gohl and Rachael Armstrong; and eight great-grandchildren, Ashley Armstrong, Allyson Armstrong, Adasyn Hollinger, Makarah Hollinger, Ryan Leone, Chase Holmes, Diem Gohl and Ava Eutsler.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by one brother, Charles Lockard, husband of Lucille Lockard of Muncy.
A graveside service was held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at the Muncy Cemetery. Officiating was Rev. Dr. Donald P. Edwards, pastor of St. Andrew Evangelical Lutheran Church, Muncy.
The family provided the flowers and suggests donations in Betty’s name be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 825 Hammonds Ferry Road, Suite H, Linthicum, MD 21090.
