Virgie E. Croman

Virgie E. (Babe) Croman, 89, a resident of Montgomery, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, July 21, 2012, in the Evangelical Community Hospital. Born in Pine Creek, Clinton County, Pa., on Monday, April 23, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Robert T. and Beatrice Mae (Huling) Overdorf.

She was the widow of Edwin O. Croman, who preceded her in death on April 25, 2005.

Virgie was employed by the former Montgomery Mills and by the former Bobbie Brooks. She retired from Trimtex.

She was a long time member First United Methodist Church at Montgomery where she was a former Sunday School teacher, a member of the United Methodist Women and was well known as an excellent pot pie roller. Virgie enjoyed baking and cooking. She was a volunteer at the Danville State Hospital and the Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit.

She is survived by five daughters and two sons-in-law, Carol Campbell, Huntsville, Ala.; Flora and David Baysore, Montgomery; Edna Riddell, Montgomery; Pam Barto, Montgomery; Robyn and Donald Ranck, Allenwood; one brother, Scott Overdorf, Muncy. Virgie is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sons-in-law, Ken Campbell, Richard Riddell and Roger Barto; two brothers, Robert Overdorf and Chester Overdorf; and four sisters, Vivian Nick, Dorothy Ault, Jean Daugherty and Peggy Crawford.

Funeral services were conducted from the First United Methodist Church, 41 W. Houston Ave., Montgomery, at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 25, 2012, with Virginia Bailey, her pastor, officiating. Interment was in the Green Lawn Memorial Park. Friends called on Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
