Clara Jane Bower

Clara Jane Bower, 85, of Hughesville, died Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, at the Williamsport Regional Medical Center.

Born Dec. 22, 1926, in Penn Township, Lycoming County, she was a daughter of the late Jasper W. and Lena E. Weaver Holmes. Her husband of 57 years, Willard S. Bower, preceded her in death on Nov. 30, 2005.

Clara was a member of the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church and a former member of the Hughesville Garden Club. She enjoyed watching wildlife, cooking and flower gardening.

Surviving are a son, Daniel W. (Marilee) Bower of Hughesville; a daughter, Ruth A. (Terry) Fulmer of Benton; three brothers, Chester Bruce (Dorothy) Holmes of Muncy, Oliver Wendell (Patricia) Holmes of Hughesville and Herbert Carl (Shirley) Holmes of Hughesville; four sisters, Norma Whitmoyer of Muncy, Mildred (Dean) Schreffler of Muncy, Anna Blanche Frantz of Hughesville and Myra Derrick of Lairdsville; a grandson, Jason D. Bower; and a stepgranddaughter, Katrina Katenburg.

In addition to her parents and husband, Clara was preceded in death by a brother, Warren Holmes; and two sisters, Nellie Budman and Grace Swisher.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no visitation. A graveside funeral service was held 10 a.m. Tuesday, at Mt. Zion Cemetery with the Rev. Gerald D. Wagner officiating.
