Velma M. Holmes
Velma M. Holmes, 101, formerly of Allenwood, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012 at The Gatehouse Hospice.
Velma’s husband, J. Lester Holmes, died in 1978. She and her husband owned and operated the Holmes General Store on White Deer Valley Road.
Velma was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elimsport.
Born Sept. 22, 1910, in Gray’s Run, Lycoming County.
Surviving are sons, John A. (Nancy A.) of Elimsport and Pastor Gene (Brenda) of Richmond, Ky.; daughters, June L. (Ambrose) Catherman of Williamsport and Edith J. (Carl) Eichenlaub of Watsontown; daughter-in-law, Valeria Holmes of Williamsport; 21 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; and 32 great-great-grandchildren.
Velma was predeceased by a son, James L. Holmes and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Friday at her church, 16818 South State Route 44, Allenwood, with Pastor D. Todd Baker and her son officiating. There was a visitation at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial was at Montoursville Cemetery.
The family provided the flowers and suggests contributions in her name may be made to her church.
