Woodrow Wilson Nicholas

Woodrow Wilson Nicholas, 97, of 275 Trinity Drive, Hughesville, formerly a resident of the Bethlehem Twp. area for over 70 years, and recently a resident in the Muncy area for the past 20 years, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012 at the Gatehouse Hospice Center in Williamsport.

Born July 25, 1915 in Bethlehem Twp., Northampton County, he was a son of the late Frank and Hattie (Williams) Nicholas. On Nov. 25, 1937 he married the former Helen Florence Saylor, who survives.

He last worked as a printer for Laros Printing Co. in Bethlehem Twp. and previously worked for Scheaffy International Garage as a painter.

Currently a member of the Muncy Presbyterian Church, he was previously a 70-year member of the former Memorial United Church of Christ, now New Creation United Church, in Easton. His hobbies included chair caning, duck carving, gardening and painting.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 74 years are one daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Richard Leaver of Hughesville; one granddaughter, Ashley Hoch and husband Brian of Herndon; and two great-grandsons, Zachary Renn and Bryant Hoch.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a grandson, Nicholas Leaver; one brother, Ervin Nicholas; four sisters, Frances Seifried, Rosa Achenbach, Edith Nicholas and Hilda Schroder; three half-brothers, John, Benjamin and Samuel; and three half-sisters, Ruth, Dorothy and Julian.

The funeral was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, at New Creation United Church, 3730 Nicholas St., Easton, PA 18045. Officiating was his pastor, the Rev. Robert E. Dunkelberger. Burial followed in St. John’s Lutheran and United Church of Christ Cemetery, Farmersville.

Friends were received from 10:30 to 11 a.m. on Thursday at the church.
