Doris M. Smith

Doris M. Smith, 78, of Muncy, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at Rose View Center, Williamsport. She was born Dec. 8, 1933, in Milton, a daughter of the late William Grant and Mary Edna Aunkst Crawford. On Aug. 2, 1951, she married the late Ernest M. Smith Jr., who died March 26, 2009.

Doris was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Muncy, and had graduated from Northmont High School, class of 1951. She had worked at Tetley Tea for 30 years as a packer and a janitor. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, knitting and attending auctions. She was a member of the West Branch Grange, No. 136, where she had attained her seventh degree.

She is survived by three sons, Steven M. (Janis) Smith, Williamsport, Joel M. (Lona) Smith, Orangeville and Robert M. Smith (Bonnie Hurst), Muncy; 10 grandchildren; two brothers, William (Jeanie) Crawford, Muncy and Robert (Beverly) Crawford, Watsontown; and four sisters, Ruth Catherman, Milton, Inez (Henry) Boyer, Dalmatia, Barbara (Gene) Robbins, Dewart and Gloria (Thomas) McClintock, Watsontown.

Doris was preceded in death by a son, Gerald M. Smith; two brothers, Paul David Crawford and C. Melvin Crawford; and two sisters, Betty Deitrick and Edna Hill.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, at the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, by Rev. Beverly Cotner. The family received friends in the funeral home Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.
