Wilbur C. Engelman
Wilbur C. (Wib) Engelman, 87, a resident of Montgomery, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, in the Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit. Born in DuBoistown, Lycoming County, Pa., on Thursday, Dec. 18, 1924, he was the son of the late Wilbur C. and P. Elizabeth (Huffman) Engelman.
He was the husband of Effie (Taylor) Engelman. They would have celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on Dec. 8.
Wilbur was a member of the graduating class of 1942 at Montgomery-Clinton High School. He honorably served during the Second World War with the Armed Guard of the U.S. Navy. Wilbur was employed for over 38 years as a train dispatcher by Conrail.
He was a member of the St. John Lutheran “Brick” Church at Montgomery. Wilbur was an avid fisherman.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Douglas N. and Debra Engelman, Montgomery; one granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Meghan and Christopher Young; one grandson, Corey D. Engelman; and one great-granddaughter, Cadence Young. Wilbur was an honorary grandfather to Michelle and Michael Wright and is also survived by numerous beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, William R. Engelman, in 1972; one sister, Elizabeth Palesky; and two brothers, William Engelman and Charles Engelman.
A celebration of Wilbur’s life will be held at St. John Lutheran “Brick” Church, 196 Brick Church Road, Montgomery at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, with Reverend Viking Deitrick, his pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the Muncy Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday, Dec. 29, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. A guard of honor will be provided by the joint veterans organizations.
