Frances L. Stroup
Frances L. Stroup, 84, of Montoursville, was welcomed into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, while surrounded by her family, on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at the Gatehouse, Williamsport.
Born May 31, 1928 in Linden, she was a daughter of the late Anson and Tressa (Harer) Gamble. She is survived by her loving husband, Charles R. Stroup. Together they celebrated 58 wonderful years of marriage.
A 1946 graduate of Williamsport High School, Frances worked for six years at the former Lycoming Avco, Williamsport. A homemaker, her greatest joy was caring for her family. She especially enjoyed cooking, canning, sewing, reading and spending special times with her realatives. She was also a caregiver for many elderly friends. In later years, Frances traveled with her husband for C. A. Reed Co. servicing greeting card displays. This allowed them time to visit and explore many parts of the United States.
Frances was a longtime member of Community Baptist Church, Montoursville, where she enjoyed serving as a deaconess, Sunday school teacher and faithful greeter. She was always available to meet the needs of others.
Surviving in addition to her husband are three sons and daughters-in-law, and two daughters and one son-in-law; Curtis and Janet Stroup of Pittsburgh, John Frederick “Rick” and Jane Stroup of Lock Haven and Timothy and Roseanne Stroup of Montoursville, Sherry Roush of Northumberland and Elaine and Kash Bartlow of Montgomery. She is also survived by one loving sister, Dorothy Jean Reed of Williamsport; ten grandchildren, Chris Ann, Ryan, Ravynne, Jamie, Bethany, Nathan, Seth and his wife Alysa, Morgan, Kohltin and Brooke; and two great-grandchildren, Anna and Ryan. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews including heather Reed, Tom and Cindy Reed and Deb and Jim Lakis and their families.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, Rev. Jacob Gamble and Rev. Frederick Gamble.
A memorial service was held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Community Baptist Church, 1853 State Route 87, Montoursville. Officiating was her former pastor, Rev. Henry Johnson. The family receives friends at 1 p.m. prior to the start of the service.
Burial was held privately in Muncy Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
