John L. Burns

John L. Burns, 94, of Muncy, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit.

Born Feb. 5, 1918, in Reading, he was a son of the late Patrick F. and Elizabeth (Ulrich) Burns. His wife of 51 years, the former Violet Marie Rupert, preceded him in death on June 7, 2009.

John retired from the Pennsylvania Railroad after having worked there for over 30 years. He enjoyed gardening and reading and was especially fond of doing research on the space industry. John also loved boating, swimming and traveling to Canada fishing.

Surviving are a daughter, Donna Noll of Lancaster; a son, Patrick Burns of Williamsport; a stepdaughter, Nancy Schweitzer of Muncy; a stepson, David Michael of Pottstown; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; and one stepgreat-great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. April 6, 2013, at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville. Burial will be held privately in Wildwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:30 to 11 a.m. April 6 at the funeral home.
