Vernice L. “Vern” Statts Sr.

Vernice L. “Vern” Statts Sr., 78, of Hughesville, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at the Muncy Valley Hospital.

He was born Oct. 18, 1934, in Johnson City, N.Y., a son of the late Lavern and Helen (Vosberg) Statts. On March 12, 1965, he married RoseAnn Danley, who survives.

He was a member of the Hughesville Baptist Church. Vern was a truck driver his whole life, driving for the former Halls Trucking, Special Commodities division and Woolever Transportation, Montoursville. He enjoyed hunting and camping and was a member of the Muncy Valley Moose, Hughesville.

In addition to his wife of 47 years, he is survived by six sons, Paul (Brenda) Statts, Wellsboro, Kenny (Lisa) Statts, Muncy, Ronald (Carolyn) Statts, Muncy Valley, James (Hilda) Statts, Garland, Texas, Dale (Sonya) Johnson, Jr. and David (Diane) Johnson, Milton; two daughters, Lori Statts (Larry Herr), Muncy and Donna Keller, Jacksonville, N.C.; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a brother, Raymond (Louise) Statts, Wellsboro; and two sisters, Doris Burgett and Harriett Bennett, both of Wellsboro.

Vern was preceded in death by three sons, Vernice L. “Mike” Jr., Keith and Terry Statts; a daughter, Sharon Statts; and a brother, Louis Statts.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, by Rev. Thomas Brokaw. The interment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hughesville. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today, Wednesday, from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Hughesville Baptist Church, 37 N.
