Ned R. Hoover

Ned R. Hoover, 62, a resident of Muncy, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at his residence following a short term illness. Born in Muncy Creek Township, Lycoming County, Pa., on Sunday, June 18, 1950, he was the son of the late Robert M. and Alberta (Wertz) Hoover.

Ned was a 1969 graduate of Montgomery High School. He was employed as a warehouse clerk by Springs Window Fashions at Montgomery for 42 years, retiring in April of 2012. He had also been employed by Widman’s Drug Store at Watsontown.

Ned was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church at Turbotville where he was a member of the Disaster Relief Team. Ned enjoyed cooking, canning, working in his flower gardens and attending antique car shows. He especially enjoyed being with his family. Ned was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution.

He is survived by his companion, Garry L. Ritter, Muncy; five brothers, Dannie and Connie Hoover, Montgomery, William L. and Holly Hoover, Watsontown, Robert M. Hoover Jr., Watsontown, Kevin L. (Jim Zuder) Hoover, Pittston, Brian K. (Roger Bowersox) Hoover, Middleburg; three sisters, Darla J. and Donald “Jack” Schaffer, Montgomery, Sandra J. and Dale Reynolds, Watsontown, Kandi L. Wagner, Middleburg; two aunts, Esther Beckley, Milton and Helen Laidacker, Montoursville and Leona C. Ritter, Muncy. Ned was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Samuel and Florence Wertz; his paternal grandparents, George and Agnes Hoover; and various aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services were conducted from the Galen R. Betzer Funeral Service, 108 N. Main St., Muncy, at 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, with Rev Erwin Roux, his pastor, officiating. Interment was in the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Delaware Township, Northumberland County, Pa. Friends called on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 39 Paradise St., Turbotville, PA 17772, or to the Susquehanna Home Hospice, 1100 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701, or to the American Cancer Society, Lycoming Unit, 1948 E. Third St., Williamsport, PA 17701.
