Michael David Kilgus

Michael David Kilgus, 44, Easton, Md., died unexpectedly on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at Easton Memorial Hospital.

Born Feb. 23, 1968, in Muncy, he was a son of Mary E. (Houseknecht) Kilgus and the late Frederick P. Kilgus. He and his wife, the former Rebecca L. Baker, would have celebrated six years of marriage on Aug. 4, 2013.

Michael was a graduate of Muncy High School, class of 1986, and a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, earning both his Bachelor and Master of Business Administration degrees. For eight years he served as dean of administration at Garrett College and currently held the position of vice president for administrative services at Chesapeake College. Michael was president of Shore Leadership and an executive member of the Talbot Chamber of Commerce.

Michael enjoyed playing golf and hosting family and friends at his pool. He was also a catalyst for higher education in the state of Maryland, leading numerous initiatives for capital improvements.

Surviving, in addition to his wife and mother, are a daughter, Kelsie M. Polce of Oakland, Md.; a son, Tanner W. Polce of Easton, Md.; two sisters, Denise L. (Steve) Morrison of Jamison and Beth A. (Scott) Stringfellow of Bel Air, Md.; his beloved dog of 13 years, Isabelle; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with Rev. Rob Ransom officiating. Friends called from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. A celebration of life was held Monday, Feb. 18, at Chesapeake College’s Todd Performing Arts Center, Historic Wye Mills, Routes 50 and 213, Wye Mills, MD 21679. A reception immediately followed in the Caroline College Center.
