Robert E. Shaner

Robert E. Shaner, 68, of Sunbury, died unexpectedly on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at his home in Rector, Ark.

Born Nov. 19, 1944, in Muncy, he was a son of the late Ellis L. and Grace Wehr Shaner. He and his wife, the former Jean L. Houseknecht, celebrated 37 years of marriage on Oct. 23, 2012.

Robert was a member of the Muncy Lodge, No. 299 F.&A.M. He loved restoring John Deere tractors and spending time with his family and friends.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Wade L. Shaner of Unityville and Greg A. Houseknecht of Muncy; a sister, Patricia (John) Pfeiffer of Hughesville; two brothers, Gary (Peggy) Shaner and William Shaner, both of Hughesville; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held 10 a.m. Friday, March 8, at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with Rev. Max L. Walters Jr. officiating. Burial followed in Lairdsville Cemetery. Friends called from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where a Masonic funeral service was conducted by the Muncy Lodge at 8:45 p.m.
