Ruth Ann Newman

Ruth Ann Newman, 64, of Hughesville, died Sunday, March 24, 2013, at the Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit.

Born Oct. 22, 1948, in Muncy, she was a daughter of the late Donald I. and Grace E. Keller Stugart. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Dennis C. Newman, on Nov. 15, 2011.

Ruth was a life member of the Muncy VFW Ladies Auxiliary and enjoyed drawing, knitting, crocheting and quilting.

Surviving are a daughter, Aletha E. (Joe) Lyons of Hughesville; a son, Carl E. Newman of Hughesville; two sisters, Donna (Bert) Bird of Benton and Mary Lou Stugart of Hughesville; a brother, John Stugart of Florida; and two grandchildren, Rachael N. Lyons and Connor W. Lyons, both of Hughesville.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by a sister, Rose Creveling and a brother, Walter Stugart.

Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Thursday, March 28, at the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with Rev. Jane L. O’Borski officiating. Burial followed in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery. Friends called from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
