Joan A. “Joanie” Shipman

Joan A. “Joanie” Shipman, 83, of Muncy, died Saturday, March 30, 2013, at Valley View Nursing Center, Montoursville. She was born Aug. 24, 1929, in Syracuse, N.Y., a daughter of the late Paul “Jack” and Mary (Yerg) Miller. On Jan. 13, 1945, she married the late Robert Taylor Shipman, who died July 30, 1993.

Joanie graduated from Turbotville High School. Robert and Joanie owned and operated the former Shipman’s Mobile Home Park until 1990. During that time their home was always open to many friends and neighbors, whom she loved to care for and provide meals. Joanie loved to shop and was a regular at Hoss’s.

She is survived by two sons, Harry E. (Evelyn) Shipman, Montoursville and Michael G. (Karla) Shipman, Muncy; eight grandchildren, Brian, Brad, Betty (Jeff), Harry II, Michael (Sarah), Mary, Scott and Andrea; nine great-grandchildren, Preston, Harry III, Ashley, Megan, Jacob, Laurel, Audrey, Zach and Kyle; two sisters, Jackie Hulsizer, Philadelphia and Joyce Snyder, Muncy; and a daughter-in-law, Patricia Shipman, Muncy.

In addition to her husband of 48 years, she was preceded in death by a son, Robert M. Shipman, in 1976.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. last Wednesday in the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., by Rev. Max L. Walters Jr. The interment was in the Muncy Cemetery. The family received friends Wednesday from 1 p.m. till the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Valley View Nursing Center, 2140 Warrensville Road, Montoursville, PA 17754.
