Michael J. Hayes

Michael J. Hayes, 70, of 609 Shuttle Hill Road, Muncy, died Saturday, April 13, 2013, at the Gatehouse in Williamsport.

Born Dec. 22, 1942 in Waseca, Minnesota, he was a son of the late Marvin and Kathryn (Vidani) Hayes. On Dec. 27, 1965, he married the former Gail A. Amsrud, with whom he has shared 47 years.

A graduate of Aquinas High School in Wisconsin, he earned a degree in Business Administration from Wisconsin State University at LaCrosse. Mike was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War.

In his youth he began working in bakeries, which prompted a 50-year career in the food industry. For years he worked for Stroehmann’s in Williamsport and retired from Quality Ingredients in New Jersey.

Mike was a charter member of the Muncy Lions Club, currently serving as President. He enjoyed reading and spending time at the Muncy Public Library. He was also a member of the Church of the Resurrection, Muncy, where he assisted with church luncheons.

In addition to his wife he is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Gregory M. and Kerry Hayes of Doylestown; one daughter, Gretchen A. Hayes of Muncy; one brother, Joseph Hayes of Arkansas; one sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Tim Wyant of Onalaska, Wisconsin; and two step-grandsons, David and Adam. He was also a grandpa to Gretchen’s dog, Baxter.

Friends were received from 11 a.m. to noon on Thursday, April 18, at the Church of the Resurrection, 75 Musser Lane, Muncy, where a funeral mass was held at noon. Officiating was his pastor, Rev. Glenn McCreary. Burial was held at the convenience of the family in Resurrection Cemetery.
