Shannon Christine Bitler

Shannon Christine Bitler, 19, of Saeger’s Station Road, Montgomery, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2013, at The Gatehouse, from injuries sustained in a vehicle accident in April 2012.

Born Oct. 26, 1993, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of Ira P. and Karen A. (Raup) Bitler of Montgomery.

Shannon was a 2012 graduate of Montgomery High School, where she had been a member of the National Honor Society. She had been accepted at Lock Haven University in their Global Honors Program.

Shannon had worked at Friendly’s Restaurant in the Lycoming Mall and was active with basketball, soccer, cheerleading and school musicals throughout her school years.

She loved dancing and attended D&K Dance Studio for 14 years. She competed with their traveling dance team in several cities and attended numerous dance conventions.

Shannon was a member of St. John’s Lutheran “Brick” Church, Montgomery, where she was active with their youth group and helped teach Bible school and Sunday school.

She will be remembered for her lively and outgoing personality.

Surviving, besides her parents, are a brother and his fiancee, Jordan P. Bitler and Kylie R. Smith of Montgomery; a sister, McKenzie N. Bitler, at home; a niece, Hailey M. Bitler; her maternal grandfather and his companion, Dean E. Raup and Nancy Barr, of Watsontown; and her paternal grandmother, Anna D. Bitler, of Clarkstown.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Priscilla A. “Pat” Raup, and paternal grandfather, Edward Bitler.

Friends were invited to call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday at St. John’s Lutheran “Brick” Church, 196 Brick Church Road, Montgomery, where the funeral service was held at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Viking Dietrich, her pastor, officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Shannon’s memory be made to The Gatehouse Hospice, 1100 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701.
