Marian I. Applegate
Marian I. Applegate, 93, of 192 Buck St., Clarkstown, died unexpectedly Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at Muncy Valley Hospital.
Born October 4, 1919 in Clarkstown, she was a daughter of the late Hurley A. and Hazel D. (Michael) Temple. On April 13, 1940 she married John William Applegate, who preceded her in death on November 9, 1984. Together they celebrated 44 years of marriage.
Marian attended Muncy High School.
She worked at the former Weldon’s Pajama Factory, Muncy, Lowes Great Value, Clarkstown and in the cafeteria at the Ward L. Myers Elementary School, Muncy.
Marian was a 93 year member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Clarkstown, which spiritually guided seven generations of her family. She was a member of the Ladies Aid Society and a former Sunday school teacher. Marian loved baking her famous sour cream cookies for the church auction which once sold for over 100 dollars per plate.
Family was most important to Marian and she spent her years nurturing and caring for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also dedicated her time to the community as the unofficial mayor of Clarkstown. Marian was a member of the Muncy Creek Twp. Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and each year she and her friend Erma Schick would bake over 100 pies to donate to the carnival. A ten year survivor of cancer, she enjoyed participating in Relay for Life.
Surviving are two daughters and one son-in-law, Carolyn L. Arthur, of Clarkstown and Joyce M. and Bob Braucht, of Jersey Shore; three grandchildren, Debra L. Gardner, Todd M. Arthur and Kristen A. Boring; seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by one brother, Carl D. Temple who died Oct. 10, 1960.
Friends were received from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2013 at Messiah Lutheran Church, 2041 St. Rte. 442 Highway, Clarkstown.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 6, at the church. Officiating was her pastor, the Rev. Beverly D. Cotner, assisted by the Rev. Dr. Kerry Aucker, pastor of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Jersey Shore.
Burial was held privately at the convenience of the family in Muncy Cemetery.
