Gloria A. Whitmoyer
Gloria A. Whitmoyer, 69, of Muncy was ushered into glory on May 18, 2013, after an extended illness, while being cared for at the Gate House in Williamsport.
She was born February 10, 1944, in Waterloo, N.Y., a daughter of the late Henry Clarence and Helen Clarissa (Farley) Delamarter. On Aug. 21, 1982, she married Garry D. Whitmoyer, who survives.
Gloria was a member of Friends Church, Hughesville, where she was a vocalist and Sunday school teacher. In 2003, she retired from the State Correctional Institution, Muncy, as a captain, after 25 years of service.
She served in the 3D Battalion 109th Infantry, Army National Guard from 1976 to 1980. Gloria was an expert marksman and loved shooting. Her other passion was singing and she sang with several southern gospel groups during her life.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Patricia (Randy) Woodling, Muncy, Pa., and Julie (Jim) Snyder, Lewisburg, Pa.; two sons, Henry Capron, Rochester, N.Y. and Kurt ((Kerry) Whitmoyer, King George, Va.; three brothers, Claude Delamarter, Savannah, N.Y.; Robert (Carol) Shafer, Hughesville and John Shafer, Muncy; two sisters, Anna (Rod) Confer, Jersey Shore and Pamela (Lester) Butler, Muncy; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and a niece and nephew, Edward and Helen Shafer, Muncy, which she and her husband raised.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 22 in the Friends Church, 137 S. Third St., Hughesville, by Rev. Dan Cale. The interment was in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy where graveside military services were accorded by combined military organizations. The family received friends Wednesday from 10 a.m. till the time of service. The family provided the flowers and wish for memorial contributions to be made to the building fund of the Friends Church, 137 S. Third St., Hughesville, PA 17737.
