Grace R. Buck
Grace R. Buck, 94, of Montgomery, died June 14, 2013, at her home. She was born Nov. 24, 1918, a daughter of the late Charles Edward and Lena Stackhouse Rooker. Feb. 5, 1938, she married the late Earnest Eugene Buck, who died Aug. 31, 2007.
She was a member of the Fairview United Methodist Church, Unityville, where she played the piano and attended the Clarkstown United Methodist Church, where she played the organ. Grace graduated from Sullivan County Highland High School, Class of 1936, where she served as class valedictorian. She continued her education at Penn State Extension to be a dietician. For many years, she was a dietician at the Muncy Valley hospital and had a dairy farm with her husband earlier in life.
Grace was a charter member of the Lairdsville Volunteer Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary, loved her church work and helping the Son-Light House. Her hobbies included cake decorating, crocheting and she was an ardent reader.
She is survived by two sons, Gary (June) Buck, Unityville, and Donne E. (Charlotte) Buck, Dover; a brother, John (Anna) Rooker, Hughesville; a sister, Maxine Perritt, Hughesville; sister-in-law, Jane Rooker, Hughesville; nine grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
In addition to her husband of 69 years, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold, Roland and Larue Rooker; a sister, Betty Titman; and brother-in-law, George Perritt.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, by Rev. Max L. Walters Jr. The family received friends in the funeral home Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery, Unityville.
