Alice B. Deckard

Alice B. Deckard, 89, of Laporte and formerly of Hughesville, died Saturday, July 13, 2013, at the Williamsport Home.

Born May 9, 1924, in Hughesville, she was a daughter of the late Arthur R. and Nellie Snowden Bubb. Her husband of 61 years, Bruce R. Deckard, preceded her in death on Nov. 23, 2007.

Alice was a graduate of Lock Haven University and taught Kindergarten at Hughesville and Milton School Districts. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Hughesville and attended the Laporte United Methodist Church during the summer months.

Alice was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family. She was an avid Bridge player who also enjoyed spending time at Lake Mokoma, traveling, reading, knitting and arts and crafts.

Surviving are two daughters, Kathi D. (Charles) Knight and Diane D. (Gene) Lalli, both of Laporte; two sons, John A. (Marie Rose) Deckard of Montoursville and David B. (Michelle) Deckard of Lititz; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3, at Laporte United Methodist Church, with Rev. Robert Brown officiating. A private burial will be held in Mountain Ash Cemetery, Laporte, at the convenience of the family. Friends may call from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at the church.
