Carlene Shipman Burkhart

Carlene Shipman Burkhart, 93, of Muncy Valley, died Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at her home.

Born Nov. 19, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Harry E. and Edna Taylor Shipman. Her husband of 31 years, Cloyd L. Burkhart, preceded her in death on Oct. 26, 1982.

Carlene was a member of the Kedron United Methodist Church and retired from GTE Sylvania after having worked there for over 50 years. She enjoyed tending to the family farm and operated a produce stand with her nephew Patrick McCloskey for many years. Carlene also loved animals, especially her cats and dog, Pup-Pup.

She is survived by a nephew, Michael G. (Karla) Shipman of Muncy; great-nephew, Michael G. (Sarah) Shipman II of Montoursville; great-niece, Mary A. Little of Muncy; great-nephew, Scott M. Shipman of Muncy; great-niece, Andrea M. Shipman of Allenwood; nephew, Harry E. (Evie) Shipman of Huntersville; great-niece, Betty J. (Jeff) Shaw of Huntersville; great-nephew, Harry E. Shipman II of Williamstown; niece, Patricia Shipman of Muncy; niece, Janice McCloskey of Lewisburg; great-nephew, Brian Shipman of Muncy; great-nephew, Brad Shipman of Benton; great-nephew, William (Patty) McCloskey Jr. of Hughesville; great-nephew, Gregory McCloskey of Allenwood; great-niece, Stephanie Beaver of Allenwood; 13 great-great-nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Iva (Paul) McCoy of Hughesville.

In addition to her parents and husband, Carlene was preceded in death by a brother, Robert T. Shipman; a sister, Maxine McCloskey; four nephews, Robert M. Shipman, Patrick McCloskey, Robert McCloskey and William McCloskey; and a sister-in-law, Joan Shipman.

Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water Street, Hughesville, with Rev. Max L. Walters Jr. officiating. Burial followed in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hughesville. Friends called from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
