Joseph E. Coonce
Joseph E. Coonce, 71, of Hughesville, died Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at the Gatehouse, of Divine Providence Hospital, Williamsport. He was born March 18, 1942, in Cheyenne, Wyo., a son of the late Joseph Albert and Katherine Helen (Hendricks) Coonce. Dec. 23, 1972, he married Ina M. Danley, who survives.
Joe graduated from Smyrna High School, class of 1961, and attended Pennsylvania Trade, Technical and Business School, Williamsport, from 1971 to 1972. He worked for the former John Savoy and Son Furniture Manufacturing for over 20 years, as a foreman, and earlier in life was a custodian at the Hughesville High School. Joe served in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1965, on the USS Holland in Spain. He was a member of American Legion Post 601 and enjoyed watching auto racing.
In addition to his wife of 40 years, he is survived by three brothers, Bobby J. Coonce, Carondelet, Ill., John E. Coonce, East Carondelet, Ill. and LeRoy A. Coonce, Columbia, Ill. and two sisters, Elizabeth N. Maurer, Dix, Neb. and Judy Ann Todd, Dupo, Ill.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Maurice C. Frank.
Graveside services were held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, July 26 in the Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy, by Rev. David Fishel. Graveside military honors were accorded by combined veterans organizations. The family received friends in the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, Friday from 9:30 till 10:30 a.m.
