John L. ‘Jake’ Stiger
John L. “Jake” Stiger, 74, of Hughesville, died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born Jan. 16, 1939, in Hughesville, he was a son of the late George W. and Mildred E. Campbell Stiger. He and his wife, the former Kathryn A. Simmons, celebrated 52 years of marriage on Jan. 6, 2013.
Jake retired in 2002 from the former Sprout Waldron’s, Muncy, after having worked there for over 39 years. He was a faithful and loyal member of the Hughesville Baptist Church and was a member of the Muncy Valley Moose. Jake was devoted to his family and friends and was an avid sportsman who enjoyed coaching Little League Baseball and elementary basketball for many years.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, John M. (Lori) Stiger of Hughesville; a daughter, Theresa Stiger Smith of Allenwood; four grandchildren, Kendra (Mike) Earnest, Rachel (Chris Gordner) Stiger, Michaela (Joel) Ryder, and Arlie Smith; and three great-grandchildren, Landon and Avery Earnest and John Michael Ryder.
In keeping with Jake’s wishes there will be no funeral services. However, Kate cordially invited family and friends to join her for a time of remembrance on Saturday, Aug. 10, from 1 to 4 p.m. at her home, which is located at 314 Cemetery St., Hughesville.
