John E. Waltz

John E. Waltz, 92 of Hughesville, died Monday, Aug. 12, 2013, at his home.

Born Sept. 13, 1920, in Hepburnville, Lycoming County, he was a son of the late E. Thompson and Katherine V. Mahaffey Waltz. He and his wife, the former June E. Nicholas, would have celebrated 36 years of marriage on Oct. 22, 2013.

John was a graduate of Hepburnville High School, class of 1939 and retired in 1983 from Lycoming College as a maintenance supervisor. He was a member of Friends Church, Hughesville, where he served as elder for many years. He was also an honorary member of Bottle Run Grange No. 1301 and served on the board of directors for Millville Mutual Insurance Company for 29 years.

John had a passion for dairy farming and horses. He could often be seen farming or logging with his Belgian horses, Jim and Jerry, or providing wedding carriage services as well.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Bonnie Hay of Greensboro, N. C.; a step-daughter, Marcy (Art) DeLozier of Maryville, Tenn.; two step-sons, Larry (Cyndi) Burke of Xenia, Ohio and Robert Burke of South Williamsport; seven grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by three brothers, Lewis, Clifford and Robert Waltz.

Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Friday at Friends Church, 137 S. Third St., Hughesville, with Pastor Dan Cale officiating. Burial followed in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy. Friends called from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church.
